On Both Sides

“You feel most of your classmates see each other as threats.  It seems they really urge themselves to be competent and make it possible to be on the lead.”

Looking closely to it seems having a different meaning.  The purpose of being in school doesn’t really mean you base your performance with others.  It’s about how you perform and how you do well with your subjects.  When you answer problems or when you take the tests, it’s between you and the challenge, not about how others will see you after knowing the results.  It is normal for your classmates to be so tough, well, knowing that some of them maintain their scholarships and some are aiming to be in the honors.  How about you? You’re the only one who does not appreciate efforts.

“Grades do not determine intelligence.  Then what are grades for?”

Grades do not only show intelligence. They also reflect diligence and perseverance.  Believe, that as human beings, we do not have equal aptitude. Yes. But do not mind the reality because in life, we are given equal chances to show our capacity and to make ourselves worthy to be called smart.  The important thing is that when you know you’re not doing your best, why do it later if you can do it now? Doing the things now with a hundred percent of attitude is not just a motto that you say once in your life, it is an everyday principle that you must live by.  So, surely you’ll get good grades when you know from the start that you exerted much of that principle.

“Follow Your Heart”

This does not really mean following the heart, but following what your mind wants instead.  Oftentimes this is deceiving because what your mind wants isn’t always good for you (oftentimes it’ll make you feel even worse), especially if it favors procrastinating. What you need to do is to teach your mind to follow what your obligations are.  The things you ought to do are the things you must set as standards.  It is like putting the big rocks first in order for the gravel and sand to fit in the remaining spaces.  The next time you feel you want to do something, it’s not the heart that says it, but the mind—and you can control it.
